So I’ve seen many places suggest you build a significant audience before attempting to launch your crowdfunding venture, ideally spending months or more building hype around your product for eventual launch. While I love that idea, and the suggested click-through rate of 10% that would mean for a mediocre showing of 100 customers a fan base of 1000+ would be necessary…with a modicum of followers on any social platform and only ever a handful of likes that significantly dashes any hopes at a successful campaign. Has anyone hit their ~100 target without building the hype train first? Have they done so through spamming game forums and the like? What’s the suggested course of action, or the course of action you yourself are planning to take with your launch?

I’m finishing my 3rd KS. The first one I just threw it up there….

Although the designer had a small following, I think most of my backers came from KS discovery.

After that though, I’ve worked to build up hype: SM, newsletters, reviewers. Each campaign’s gotten more backers/success. So I’m not suggesting to not do the promotion, but I will say that you can be successful for a small campaign without it.
