Hello! I have been working on a 4x game with a space setting. I will start by saying that I have not decided if I want this to be more serious or a little bit goofy (think Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy or Futurama or something), but I am actually leaning goofy if I can make it work. Anyway, that just means I’m open to all types of suggestions.<div>

I am looking for resources in two types, renewable and non-renewable. I am currently working with:
Nonrenewable:<div>

*Fuel

*Metals

Renewable

</div><div>

*Food

*Wood

I think wood would be more practical than it might seem at first, but it feels thematically broken. So first of all, I am looking for a renewable substitute for wood (or a good argument for making fuel renewable and then another non-renewable source, which might actually be easier)
Other than that, I am open to any suggestions for possible resources to replace or supplement these, though I am hoping to keep it to around 4 or 5 total.</div><div>

Again, I am open to either serious or silly space-themed ideas. 🙂

For a renewable resource, consider “bioplastics” which may be more thematic than wood. Instead of a fossil fuels plastic, it can be an evolution of one of our current renewable plastics.

OOOH, I like that! Thanks! I was thinking something like a polymer, but that didn’t seem right. The notion of a “bioplastic” is great! And it could also work well if I go with a less serious theme. Thanks again!

Going either route maybe can find inspiration from those genres. You could have anti-matter or dark matter. Not know the whole scope of the game, renewable energy sources could enter as a currency (trade light photons, solar power, solar winds). Bio-plasm?Is Soylent green a renewable resource?

Some kind of gas maybe? All I can hear is ” You are out of vespian gas!” from Starcraft 🙂
