Updates on how long you’ve been working on your game, and your goal on when you hope to be able to set it down with satisfaction of completing the design

I’ve been working on my 4x game, The Gateway, for about 4 months now. I’ve got a lot going on in my life right now, and so my goal is to make slow steady daily progress and be able to complete my 4x design in about 2 years. What about you guys?

I have been working for 4 years on my design and it has grown and changed a lot, while still being true to the core vision. Lately, it has seen simplification (4X games are never simple), and a play-test with my “partial-gamer” wife was very successful. She liked it and is happy to play it again.

4X games “look scary” because there is a lot of stuff on the table but I have done my best to streamline the game down and while “long”, it is engaging all the time with very little down time.

As for when I would like to complete the game, for me it is still at least a year away. I hope to get it into TTS so enable more people to look and give feedback on the game and to save games in progress.

I’ve been working on some form of my game for 7 years (though literally everything has changed from its first iteration). I’ve gone through 4 themes and redesigned every mechanic at least once. At this point 4Keeps is a streamlined sandbox set in Medieval Scotland where your clan can claim the crown by battling your rivals or building up your own kingdom peacefully. I’m doing my best to not rush or force it. I’ll probably release it through The Game Crafter since I’m not interested in wading knee deep into publishing logistics.
